Enjoyed a nice stroll around the lake this morning before it got too hot to do anything outside.

…Well, it was already 85 degrees by the time we made it to the lake. plus the humidity! blech. I was sweating in a matter of minutes.

at least it’s better than walking under the 99 degree sun like it’s going to be this afternoon. right?

ugh, I was up late last night cleaning out my dad’s laptop. He recently mentioned to me that he had some problems with intrusive pop-up ads and such so I took the laptop home with me yesterday to see what was up. And just as I suspected, my dad’s computer had accumulated a nasty array of viruses and spyware. I’m not completely sure how it happened, but the internet security suite I bought for him last year was no where to be found on his hard drive. Since my father isn’t that computer savvy, he’s not certain if he deleted the program or if some malware had a hand in uninstalling it.

In any case, I had to scan the harddrive multiple times to get all the junk off his computer. After the cleanup, the computer kept on giving out error messages for missing .dll files related to some of the viruses. thankfully going through MSCONFIG and deactivating the related files in the registry did the trick for those errors.

I can’t believe his laptop was infected like that. What are my parents doing on the computer to end up with such malware?? must have something to do with all the korean videos that they watch so incessantly. They’re retired so as you can imagine, their daily routine involves going on the web to read up on the latest korean headlines and watch korean soaps. So it was imperative that I fix their laptop overnight so that I could get it back to them in the morning. It wouldn’t be right of me to deny the ol’ folks from their daily routine, now would it?

I can’t say that I’m surprised at the news since we had witnessed a number of rides breaking down during our visit to the amusement park. Luckily none of the coasters broke down while WE were on them.

It’s interesting to note that the coaster that broke down is their newest coaster. You’d think that the newer coasters would be “safer” than the older ones.

The passengers were able to exit the ride onto a nearby platform. All of passengers were taken to first aid. Seven of the riders were released back into the park; the eighth was taken to a local hospital and examined.

now with colder temperatures upon us, we took our winter comforters out from storage. They smelled like the needed some freshing up so we decided to head out to the local laundromat to get those comforters washed. as you might have guessed, they’re a bit too bulky for the washing machine at home. anyway, we haven’t been to a coin operated laundromat in AGES so it took a while to find one near us.

luckily we found one that had one of the washers that could handle larger loads. it took $8 in quarters plus a couple bucks for detergent (we forgot to bring our own – that’s how out of practice we are!!).

then of course there’s the additional time waiting around for the dryers to do their thang. anyway, it was fun sitting there reminiscing about our youngers days when a visit to the laundromat was a regular requirement.

of course we’re thankful that we no longer have to spend time each week at the coin operated laundromat!!
