the dinosaur trail

January 27th, 2010 4 comments

the kids and I recently visited the Dinosaur Trail at the local life and science museum. The kids loved seeing the life-sized representations of these long-gone creatures.

The boys’ favorite spot turned out to be the fossil dig area. I suppose that’s no surprise since boys and big piles of dirt have a long history together :P

meh. It’s too bad none of the dinosaurs were animatronic.

Stopping Male Hair Loss Early is Key

January 26th, 2010 No comments

This is a sponsored guest post written by Louis Dobbs on behalf of Procerin for Men. Post powered by Sponzai.

For many men, hair loss in an unfortunate fact of life. Whether you are going completely bald, or have just started to notice some thinning of your hairline, odds are good that you will be one of the nearly 65% of men that experience some loss of hair in their lives. For those of us with prematurely bald fathers or grandfathers, the future is even more bleak. Genetics plays a powerful role in a man’s susceptibility to hair loss, so if you have a family history of male pattern baldness early action is essential to keeping your hair.
Scientists have known for over a decade that male hair loss is the result of a combination of genetics and the effects of di-hydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a byproduct of the male hormone testosterone. It is created when a chemical reaction mutates testosterone, and converts it into DHT. DHT latches on to receptors in the hair follicle, eventually killing it off and causing the hair to fall out. The higher the levels of DHT in the scalp, the more “under attack” your hair follicles are every day.
If you want to save your hair, stopping the effects of DHT is your top priority. The active ingredients in Procerin for men work with your body chemistry to block the formation of DHT in the first place. Procerin provides a powerful 2-part approach to battling DHT-related hair loss with a daily capsule and a convenient topical foam. If you are concerned about losing your hair, you owe it to yourself to try out Procerin before it is too late. Procerin is available without a prescription and backed by a 90 day money back guarantee.

a Wii Sports injury

January 18th, 2010 1 comment

Years before Nintendo unveiled the Wii motion controllers to the world, video gamers rarely had to worry about getting hit in the face while playing. But unfortunately gaming injuries are becoming a bit more common nowadays especially with sporting games on the Nintendo Wii. With arms rapidly flailing about in the heat of competition, it’s pretty much a given that someone would get physically knocked to the ground by their opponent.

It even happened with my kids this past weekend. We’ve had the Wii for approximately two years so it’s not like they’re not used to playing with the controllers in their hands. Anyways, the 12-year old and the 5 year old were playing Wii Sports Resort and the older one inadvertently hit the younger one pretty hard in the eye. Our poor 5 year old ended up with a big bruise and a nasty cut on the eyelid. ouch. it ain’t pretty.

and.. believe me we’ve told them countless of times before not to get too close to each other while playing these games but we all know how hard headed kids can be.

The 5 year old is fine but he looks like he’s been in some sort of fist fight. In fact, we’ve been calling him “Rocky Balboa” all weekend.

stream Netflix movies on the Nintendo Wii

January 13th, 2010 2 comments

Netflix officially confirmed today that they’ll be sending out streaming discs in the spring for those interested in streaming movies via their Nintendo Wii game system. Since I’m a Netflix member (and a Wii owner), I’m looking forward to the new service. I haven’t tried streaming Netflix movies on my laptop since watching movies that way seems tedious to me. But since the Wii is connected to the family room flatscreen, I’ll definitely give streaming a try. I’ve seen my kids watch “Nintendo Week” on the Nintendo Channel via the Wii and from what I’ve seen, the quality of the streaming video isn’t that bad. I guess the big test for Netflix is their ability to offer a broad range of titles for streaming including new releases.

So, if you’re a Netflix subscriber and want to stream movies on the Wii, be sure to sign up for a streaming disc as soon as you can. There’s no telling how much demand there’ll be for the Wii streaming discs but I think it’s best to just go ahead and get your name on the list anyway.

won’t you be my neighbor?

January 4th, 2010 2 comments

the self-absorbed assholes across the street continue to let their ugly-ass mutt run free around the cul-de-sac like it’s their own personal dog park. And as you can imagine, the dog loves to come over to growl & bark at us or take a dump on our lawn.

inconsiderate fucks.

we’ve talked to them before about not wanting their dog coming over into our yard and kindly mentioned the leash law to them. and it worked for a while but now that it’s freezing cold outside, we’ve noticed that instead going out to walk the dog like a responsible dog owner would, they’d simply push their dog out the door and allow he/she/it to crap wherever the hell he/she pleases. and you guessed it – the little shit comes over to our yard b/c their yard is simply too full of dog poop.

we confronted our neighbor again and she had the gall to just turn her back and refuse to talk to us. obviously she knows she has been irresponsible but to tell us that she’s “done” with the conversation without letting us finish just burns me up to no end.

They are SO overdue for Karma to come and kick ‘em in the face. come on, karma, where the hell are you?
