Ugh. Cats. Drive me nuts. Got four of them (thanks to the wife) and they’re all nuts.

My advice? Throw down a litter box (they’re good about using those, at least), feed the critter a couple of times a day and prepare to be annoyed.

Get a catbox with a hood. We made the mistake of NOT doing that and our cat has developed the charming habit of peeing over the edge of her box and on to the floor.

You will be a cat lover in no time at all. They’re awesome. All you have to do is show them the litter box and they instinctively will use it. You may find, though, scratches on your furniture, tripping over it in the middle of the night, and constant meowing in the wee hours to get up and serve it breakfast. But it’ll be awesome and you won’t have any regrets.

they were all for a dog until I explained to them that they had to pick up after the dog when walking it around the neighborhood.

as for the cat, I’m washing my hands from it from the get-go. it’s the wife’s + kids responsibility!
