IKEA – the promised land
the wife and I made the two and a half hour trek to IKEA yesterday. It’s just far enough to prevent my wife from visiting too frequently b/c if she had her way, she’d be there all the time. it’s her “promised land” if you will.

she’s got a ton of decorating and furnishing ideas for the house but she’s severely limited by our budget. We only purchased what we set out to get yesterday so it was good in that sense. I wish I could allow her to get all that she wants but we’d be more in the hole than we already are. and that would do no one any good, now would it?
oh and after wandering around the crowded store all day, I wanted to test out one of those little “5-hour energy drinks” for the drive home. I can tell you now that the lil’ energy shot is bogus and didn’t do squat for me. I was sleepy and worn out all the way home! *harumph*

We have an IKEA that went in kind of near us a couple years ago. I still have not made it there! Sure want to, though.
just saw this article in TIME and I thought I’d post it here -
The Font War: Ikea Fans Fume over Switch to Verdana
apparently the move over to the Verdana font has caused an uproar!!
here’s an excerpt:
So why would Ikea make such a change? The very ubiquity of Verdana seems to be part of the font’s appeal. Freely distributed by Microsoft, the typeface allows Ikea to use the same font in all countries and with many alphabets. “It’s more efficient and cost-effective,” says Ikea spokeswoman Monika Gocic. “Plus, it’s a simple, modern-looking typeface.”
“They went cheap, in other words,” counters Bucharest designer Iancu Barbarasa, who blogged about the font change on his website. If he sounds somewhat bitter, there’s a reason. With its attention to the curve of even a $9 lampshade, Ikea has become renowned for its understanding of good design. “Designers have always thought of Ikea as one of their own,” Barbarasa notes. “So now, in a way, the design community feels betrayed.”
The 5 hour energy didn’t work for you? That is too bad. I love those little orange and red bottles!
